Roche Bobois - Glass Transeo Dining Table
We purchased a beautiful Transeo glass base dining table from Roche Bobois. The base has four pieces of industrial glass that crisscross.
The four pieces are glued together in the center, and support the glass table top. One morning, we awoke to what sounded like an explosion. The industrial glass base collapsed, with the glass top landing on the two supporting arm chairs. Had anyone been sitting at the table at the time the base collapsed, death or severe permanent injury would have resulted.
We consulted with an engineer who explained that no glue will cement glass permanently. This is an enormously heavy glass base with an equally heavy glass table top. The safety risks are staggering. Roche-Bobois would not honor the warranty, as we purchased the table about 11-1/2 years on a 10-year warranty.
They tried to blame us for the manufacturing defect, such as moving the table (an impossibility, given the weight). The Transeo table is a tremendous safety hazard and existing tables should be recalled.
Neither Roche Bobois nor the manufacturer in Italy had any interest in sending a representative to inspect the table, although they did offer a replacement Transeo table base at more than twice the price we initially paid. Product safety is of no concern to Roche Bobois.
Reason of review: Bad quality.
